Second Half Goals Foil Hollins

Box Score

The Hollins University soccer team played a rare, mid-season, non-conference game when they traveled to face Johnson & Wales in Charlotte. The Wildcats defeated Hollins last season and the green and gold went on the road looking to exact a bit of revenge.

The defenses controlled the first 20 minutes of the matchup. At the 21:22 mark of the first half Johnson & Wales got the scoring started when leading scorer Danielle Doyle played a through ball and beat the keeper for a 1-0 lead. Hollins wasted no time in evening up the match when Darien Cook sent a ball through the defense to Alexis McDonough and McDonough did the rest to tie the score, 1-1. The game remained tied throughout the remained of the first half and for 15 minutes of the second frame. The Wildcats continued to wear down the Hollins defense and scored a trio of late goals to pull away for a 4-1 win.

McDonough scored her third goal of the season while Cook added her second assist. Keeper Hannah Armstrong recorded 10 more stops giving the first-year, 160 saves for the year.

Doyle scored or assisted on all four of Johnson & Wales scores, two goals and two helpers. Taylor Helms and Lana Truese scored the other two Wildcat goals.

Hollins will be back in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Saturday when they travel to Harrisonburg to face Eastern Mennonite University.
