The Lead: The Hollins University soccer team welcomed their arch rivals from Sweet Briar to Berkley Field for a noon matchup of Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foes. The Vixens scored first but the goal was quickly answered by the home team. At the 20-minute mark, Hollins drew a penalty in the box and promptly converted the Penalty Kick into a 2-1 lead that HU would hold into the halftime break. The second half would see the visitors from Sweet Briar take control after tying the score at 2-2, 10 minutes into the half. Two more SBC scores would be too much to overcome as the Vixens picked up the 4-2 conference win.

Highlights
  • Sweet Briar would net the first goal of the afternoon just over eight minutes into play.
  • Hollins answered three minutes later when Cadie Ellingson sent a ball down the middle through the Vixen defense to Isabella Byron. Byron beat the SBC keeper for her third goal of the season.
  • At the 20-minute mark, Macy Lieb took the ball into the Sweet Briar box and was fouled leading to a Penalty Kick. Byron stepped up to take the kick and put the ball in the upper left portion of the net for a 2-1, Hollins, lead.
  • The visitors enjoyed a 9-5 shot edge during the first half but it would be a 2-1 Green and Gold lead at the break.
  • Sweet Briar flipped the field on Hollins for the second 45-minutes of action. In the second half, Sweet Briar changed their philosophy and didn't allow a Hollins shot as the put three goals on the board for a 4-2, come from behind, victory.
  • Byron attempted three shots and scored twice, giving the first year a team leading four goals for the season. Ellingson recorded her first assist of the season. Lieb registered a pair of shots on the afternoon.
  • Zoe Baxter made five stops in her 90 minutes of action.
