The Lead: The Hollins University soccer team made the short trek to Salem to play their annual cross-town match with Roanoke College. The Maroons got some really good scoring chances but the back line was up the task early. Roanoke would break through, netting four first half goals on their way to a halftime advantage. The home team continued to control the action for the second 45 minutes of play, securing the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win, 11-0.

Highlights
  • The first two Roanoke shots would go off the post. At the 40:30 mark, Roanoke got the ball past the Hollins keeper but Rachel Hull came from her defensive position to kick the ball away.
  • The Maroons got goals from each of their three leading scorers on their way to a 4-0 halftime advantage.
  • Roanoke would not allow a Hollins shot on goal as the Maroons enjoyed a 37-0 shot edge.
  • Zoe Baxter got the start in goal and recorded 12 saves before being replaced by Raynia Russell. Russell played all four positions on the field, never coming out of the contest and registered one save in her first appearance in net.
Up Next: Hollins plays host to their arch-rivals from Sweet Briar on Saturday afternoon. The opening kick with the Vixens is scheduled for noon on Berkley Field.
