ODAC Opener For Hollins

Box Score

Roanoke, VA - After opening the season with five non-conferences games, the Hollins soccer team saw ODAC competition for the first time on Saturday afternoon.  Hollins played host to Virginia Wesleyan in the conference debut for both schools.  The Marlins were picked third in the 2015 ODAC Women's Soccer Preseason Poll and Hollins would need to get off to a quick start to stay with the deep roster of Virginia Wesleyan.

Hollins took the opening possession and pushed the ball deep into the Marlins zone.  However, the tide would turn quickly and it was the visitors from Virginia Beach that got the quick start.  The Marlins netted their first goal at the 1:36 mark and added two more scores before the match was even five minutes old.

Virginia Wesleyan used their depth, 28 different Marlins played on the afternoon, to keep the pressure on their hosts for the entirety of the 90 minutes.  When the final horn sounded, Hollins had fallen in their ODAC opener to Virginia Wesleyan, 15-0.

Goalkeeper Audrey Haisley (Ashburn, VA) and her defensive teammates were under siege throughout the game.  Haisly recorded nine saves while defense added five blocked shots on the afternoon.  Hollins best scoring chance came at the midway point of the second half when Kally Saffer (Winston-Salem, NC) got by the Marlin defenders on the right side of the field.  Saffer bent a shot towards the goal but it was knocked away by the Marlin keeper, sailing wide of the target.

10 different Marlins netted goals, two apiece for Kaitlyn Clunan, Madison Adkins, Madison Sanders, Kerry Knauss, and Katie Roberts.  Catherine Galway handed out two of Virginia Wesleyan's 10 assists.

Hollins will go on the road in search of a conference win on Wednesday afternoon.  Greensboro will be the site when Hollins faces Guilford College at 4:00pm.
