Bridgewater, VA - The Hollins University soccer team was once again on the road in ODAC play on a cool Wednesday afternoon. Bridgewater College played host to a Hollins team looking for it's first conference win of the season. The Eagles came into the matchup looking for their third straight win and second consecutive conference victory.
Bridgewater wasted little time in attacking their visitors from Roanoke. The Eagles netted three goals in the game's first eight minutes. The home team once again found the back of the Hollins net, this time the Eagles struck for a pair of goals and at the midway point in the first half, enjoyed a 5-0 advantage. Bridgewater added to their lead and as the matchup headed into the break and enjoyed a comfortable lead heading into the final 45 minutes. Hollins once again found themselves on the defensive as Bridgewater scored a quick second half goal. The rest of the match was played at a much slower pace as the Eagles seemed content to sit on their lead. Hollins kept their hosts off the scoreboard the rest of the way but could not sustain any sort of offensive pressure. Bridgewater cruised to a 9-0 conference win.
Sophomore keeper Megan McKee (Madison, AL) was back in net for Hollins and posted nine saves on the afternoon. McKee Came into the match leading the ODAC in saves despite missing ore than two games due to injury and now has recorded 74 saves on the season. Christina Havrila (Ruckersville, VA) and Jovannah Salmeron (Zebulon, NC) patrolled the midfield for Hollins and helped to hold Bridgewater to just one second half goal.
The Eagles were led by Julia Baca with a pair of goals and Keri Rager, one goal and two assists. Bridgewater saw eight different goal scorers and a trio of net minders combined for the shutout.
Hollins will return to action next Tuesday when they return home to face Emory & Henry College. The match with the Wasps is scheduled to start at 4:00pm
