Box Score Decatur, GA - Fresh off their first match of the season, the young Hollins volleyball team returned to the court just minutes after their 2016 opener. Seven Hollins first-year players had just played their first collegiate match and took aim at picking up the first wins of their careers. Wesleyan College awaited Hollins as the green and gold dominated the fist set and never looked back.
Hollins raced out to an early advantage and closed out the Wolves, 25-9. After winning their first set of the season, Hollins continued to outhit their opponent, enjoying a 15-5 kill advantage through the first two sets. Hollins went for the sweep in the third set by scoring the first two points of the frame. Wesleyan battled back and took a lead but with the set tied, 9-9, Hollins scored seven unanswered points to end any comeback thoughts going through the Wolves minds. Hollins evened her record at 1-1 with a, 3-0, sweep of Wesleyan.
Deja Hadden bounced back from the match earlier in the day to post a team high nine kills. Amanda Mink registered eight kills and a service ace while Ki'Ana Speights converted on five of her eight attacks. Senior Rachel Hertzler and Karli Ford each recorded four digs and setter Casey Mahan handed out 11 assists. Wesleyan struggled in the receiving department as Hollins served up 18 aces led by Jessica Bradbury with five.
Nadia Hernandez led the Wolves attack with four kills and Peri Stables added three. Hannah Straut had six assists and Savanna Gowin dug out nine Hollins attacks.
Hollins will head back to Roanoke and prepare for their home opener on Wednesday night. Hollins will play host to Mary Baldwin in the first of consecutive matches with the Squirrels.
