The Lead: Staying overnight after playing Randolph-Macon, the Hollins volleyball team had a Saturday morning match with Batten University in their penultimate Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game of the season. The Marlins enjoyed a 48-18 edge at the net and with 11 service aces, Batten picked up their second ODAC sweep in as many days.
Highlights
- Batten defeated Hollins 13-25, 8-25, 19-25.
- The Green and Gold struck first before Batten responded with a 5-0 surge. A Bella Schultz winner would see an HU rally to make it a one-point spread. However, the Marlins re-rallied and closed out the first set by scoring 13 of the next 15 points for a 1-0 lead.
- All the momentum was wearing blue as Batten rolled to a 2-0 lead on the back of 14 kills.
- Cassidy Henderson sparked a 3-0 run in the third set to bring Hollins to within 10-11. Nine consecutive Marlin points would put the match away.
- Annabelle Kemper paced HU with four kills while Henderson, Norah Madrey, and Abby Neel each accounted for three of the team's 18 attack winners. Laken Tingler (9) and Evelyn Harris (7) helped on 16 of 18 kills. Tingler served a pair of aces with Madrey having the other service winner.
- Defensively, Madrey had two blocks with Schultz registering eight digs.
Up Next: Hollins is on the road one final time this season when they make the trip into the Shenandoah Valley to face ODAC leading Bridgewater on Wednesday night. The conference finale against the Eagles is scheduled to start at 6:00pm.
