Box Score Decatur, GA - The Hollins University volleyball team opened her 2016 season on the road when they traveled to Atlanta, Georgia for a pair of matches. Agnes Scott would be the first opponent to challenge the young, up and coming squad. Hollins struggled early and never could get into the match as the Scotties took the season opener, 3-0.
The home team used a 14-6 run in the first set to seize control of the match and take a quick, early, 1-0 advantage. Set number two saw the visitors race out to a 3-0 lead but Agnes Scott used a 10-0 run midway through the set to take a 19-11 lead that the home team would not give up, taking a two sets to none lead. The Scotties continued to control the action as the home team ran their early season record to a perfect 2-0 by sweeping Hollins, 3-0.
Sophomore hitter Deja Hadden led the Hollins attack at the net when she recorded four kills on her, team leading, 23 attacks. First-year Courtney Chappell added three kills while fellow first timer Amanda Mink connect on two of her 19 attacks. Torri Jolly patrolled the back line and registered 13 digs to lead the Hollins defense while Casey Mahan haded out five assists.
Agnes Scott used a 24-10 advantage on kills to control the net during the match. Paige Heck recorded a match high 10 kills. Setter Anna Tomkins assisted on 17 points while Bella Kammerer led the Scotties with 11 digs.
Hollins will have to recover quickly as they are scheduled to compete on the same court against Wesleyan College at 2:00pm.
