Box Score Roanoke, VA - The Hollins volleyball team closed out September with a visit from Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) power Bridgewater College on Wednesday night. The Eagles came into the matchup with a 3-1 conference mark while Hollins was looking to build off their momentum from the Salem match last night.
Hollins once again saw their opponents race out to an early advantage. Bridgewater won six of the first seven points. Hollins kept the deficit at five points as the set continued, 12-7. However, the Eagles scored 13 of the final 14 points to take the set, 25-8. The home team played much better in set number two, but Bridgewater enjoyed the same 12-7 lead as they did in the opener. After an attack error and a service ace by Courtney Chappell, Hollins found themselves down just three points. The Eagles regained control and rattled off six straight to put the set away, 25-12, and take a 2-0 lead. The third frame saw Hollins enjoy her first lead of the evening, 9-8. The set would see three different lead changes and four ties but in the end the road team took the set, 25-22, and the match.
Chappell had five kills, two assists, five digs, and a block to go with her ace. Deja Hadden led Hollins with 10 kills while Casey Mahan and Cana Lankford each recorded a pair of kills. Mahan assisted on 13 of the team's 21 kills to go with nine digs. Libero Torri Jolly led the way with 18 digs with Lankford, Chappell, Ki'Ana Speights, and McKinley Isaacs accounted for all of Hollins blocks.
Abby Mills led a balanced Eagle attack by scoring on nine of her 18 attacks while Carleigh Studtmann and Danielle McKelvey each added seven. Rachael Girard and Jenna Hamra registered 35 of Bridgewater's 39 assists.
Hollins will go on a two match road trip over the weekend. The first stop will be a Friday night matchup with Mount Aloysius.
