Late First Half Surge Lifts Quakers Over Hollins

Box Score

Saturday afternoon marked the fourth of a four game home stand for a Hollins team looking to earn their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory of the season. Guilford College was the opponent as the Quakers opened their ODAC schedule.

Guilford got off to a quick start as the Quakers took a corner kick just 2:30 into the match and scored on a long range shot. The Hollins defense started to dictate the action, keeping the Guilford attack from adding to its' advantage. After the midway point of the opening half, the score remained 1-0. Due to the heat, the officials stopped play to give the teams a break from the sun. After the short break, Guilford dominated the action and netted four goals in the final 20 minutes of the half. The visitors from Greensboro continued to enjoy time in the Hollins zone during a second half that saw the Quakers attempt 22 shots, with only 11 being on goal. The home team enjoyed a pair of scoring opportunities but couldn't beat the Guilford keeper. Hollins fell to 0-2 in conference play as Guilford picked up the 8-0 ODAC win.

Hannah Armstrong faced a plethora of shots on the afternoon, recording 14 saves. Darien Cook enjoyed Hollins best scoring chance of the match when she took the ball down the right side, beat one defender and dribble through another to get a solid shot on net. MacKenzie Roberts added another shot on goal.

Juliana Evans-Anfom scored three times to lead the road team. Lauren Culler added two scores while six different Quakers recorded assists.

Hollins will travel to Charlotte next week when they go out of conference to face Johnson & Wales on Tuesday night.
