Royals Best Hollins On The Road

Harrisonburg, VA - The Hollins volleyball team traveled to Harrisonburg to face Eastern Mennonite in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action. The winner would pick up their first conference win of the season and move up the ODAC standings.

The home standing Royals used a 12-3 run early in the opening set and cruised to a 25-15 win. The second frame was once again a back and forth affair with the two conference rivals trading points. Hollins enjoyed a slim one point advantage, 3-2, but a five point run by Eastern Mennonite turned the tide and the home team took the momentum of the set and pushed the lead to 15-9. Hollins outscored their hosts the rest of the way but it wasn't enough as EMU took a 2-0 lead. The Royals took a five point lead in the third, 10-5, and wouldn't let the visitors get any closer the rest of the way. Eastern Mennonite took the final set, 25-20, and secured their first ODAC win of the season.

Ki'Ana Speights and Amanda Mink led Hollins at the net with Speights recording four kills on nine attempts while Mink killed six of her 15 attacks. Deja Hadden Led Hollins with eight kills and setter Casey Mahan assisted on 16 of the team's 23 net points. Speights added three digs, two blocks, and an assist and Torri Jolly led the back row with 17 digs.

Becca Hardy had 10 kills while Janna Williams added nine. Jasmine Johnson handed out 29 assists and Cheyenne Herbrandt led with six digs.

Hollins will return home for a pair of matches next week, beginning with a non-conference match with Salem College on Tuesday night.
