Ferrum Takes Rematch

Box Score

Roanoke, VA - After facing Ferrum College at the Maroon Classic earlier this month, Hollins welcomed the Panthers to campus for a rematch. Nine days ago, Ferrum got the best of their hosts but Hollins came into the match on a home win streak and looked to get even with the Panthers.

After seeing the two teams trade points, Ferrum enjoyed the first advantage of the evening by winning six straight to push their lead to 9-3. Hollins responded after a timeout but it only slowed the Panther's momentum. Ferrum outscored Hollins, 16-9, to close out the first set. After a short break, Ferrum once again took an early lead en route to taking the second set, 25-13. The third set was a different story, with the home team racing out to an 8-4 lead. The Hollins advantage began to go away as Ferrum closed the gap and ultimately tied the set at 16-16. The visitors scored nine of the final 11 points to take the match, 3-0, and run their record to 2-0 against Hollins this season.

The back row did a solid job for the home team as a trio of players recorded double digit digs. Torri Jolly led the way with 13 while Casey Mahan added 12, and Amanda Mink 10. Mahan handed out 12 assists with Deja Hadden scoring on nine of her 44 attacks and McKinley Isaacs added three kills.

Libero Sarah Hendrix had a nice all around effort with 31 digs, three assists, and four service aces. Setter Cheyenne Strickland helped on 23 of Ferrum's 38 kills. Jessica Turner (11) and Jordan Joyce (9) led a balanced Panther attack.

Hollins will be back in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Wednesday night when they travel to Harrisonburg. Hollins will face Eastern Mennonite with both teams looking for their first conference win of the season.
