Box Score Lynchburg, VA - The Hollins volleyball team wrapped up her two match road swing to open Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play with a trip to Lynchburg. Hollins bested Wilson College on Tuesday night before falling to Randolph-Macon the next evening. Hollins would need a win over the Hornets to post a winning record for the week.
The afternoon started slowly for the visitors as Lynchburg raced out to a 9-0 advantage to open the match. Hollins couldn't get much going and the slow start doomed the road team as their hosts enjoyed a 25-8 first set victory. Five service aces in the first 13 points allowed the Hornets to once again build a huge lead. Trailing 1-12 in the second set, Hollins played Lynchburg even the rest of the way but after two sets, it was the home team with a 2-0 advantage. Set three saw another slow start by Hollins. However the green and gold began to mount a late rally, outscoring the Hornets 11-10, but it wasn't enough as Lynchburg registered the sweep by taking the final set, 25-15.
Leading hitter Deja Hadden recorded a match high 13 kills on 34 total attacks. Hadden is currently 10th in the ODAC with 108 kills and 5th in kills per set, 3.27. Setter Casey Mahan helped on 16 of Hollins 17 total kills while Amanda Mink and Torri Jolly each dug out eight balls on the back line.
The Horents used a balanced attack led by Jenn Garrett and her 10 kills. Lynn Walsh handed out 13 assists to go with six digs.
Hollins will host Ferrum College on Monday night when they look to win their second consecutive home match.
