Defending Champs Welcome Hollins

Box Score

After several non-conference matches to start the season, Hollins began Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play with a trip to Randolph-Macon. The Yellow Jackets won the 2015 ODAC Volleyball Championship and Hollins would be the first conference team to take aim at knocking off the champs.

The match started with the two teams trading points and Randolph-Macon enjoyed a slim, 4-3, early advantage. From that point on, Hollins struggled to keep up with the defending champions and the Yellow Jackets finished the set on a 21-3 run. With all the momentum on their side, the home team continued to control the match throughout the rest of the evening. A 5-0 start to the second set allowed the Jackets to cruise to a 2-0 lead. Hollins finally found her legs from the long bus ride and enjoyed the advantage for the first time all night, building a 7-2 cushion in the third. However, Randolph-Macon stormed back to score 23 of the next 28 points to take the match.

After enjoying their best hitting match of the season one night ago, Hollins struggled at the net, recording just nine kills on 62 attacks. Deja Hadden led the way with six kills, a dig, and two blocks. Casey Mahan added eight assists and seven digs while Ki'Ana Speights recorded two blocks and a kill.

Miranda Hall and Mariah Clark led a balanced Randolph-Macon attack with seven kills each. Setter Erin Quinn assisted on 26 of the Yellow Jackets 39 net points and helped out the back line with six digs.

Hollins will continue conference play with a trip to Lynchburg College on Satruday afternoon.
