Box Score Roanoke, VA - For only the second time this season, the Hollins volleyball team defended her home court when they welcomed Wilson College to campus for a non-conference matchup. Hollins came into the match in desperate need of a win after falling to pick up a win at the Roanoke College Maroon Classic over the weekend.
The home team used a hot start to take control of the match in the early stages. Leading 9-4, Hollins forced a Wilson timeout but the stoppage of play couldn't slow down the hosts. Another timeout by the Phoenix just put off the inevitable as Hollins took the opener, 25-9. Hollins continued to rack up the service aces, 13 for the night, in the second frame as Hollins built on the advantage throughout, cruising to a 25-6 win. Looking for the sweep, Hollins continued to dominate in the stat column, outhitting the Phoenix 35-15, en route to a 3-0 sweep to capture their first home win of the season.
Deja Hadden helped to lead a Hollins attack that hit .647 for the match. Hadden recorded 12 kills on 19 attacks. Amanda Mink killed seven of 12 with McKinley Isaacs going a perfect six for six. Ki'Ana Speights had four kills, six service aces, and helped on a pair of blocks while Casey Mahan registered 22 assists and Torri Jolly led the back line with eight digs.
Laury Jean Baptiste led the Phoenix with six kills while setter Erin Claycomb handed out 12 assists.
Hollins will kick off Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play tomorrow night at Randolph-Macon.
