Box Score Winchester, VA -For the final time in the 2015 regular season, Hollins took the court in Winchester against Shenandoah University. Hollins looked to end the season on a win streak while the Hornets needed a win to move up the conference standings.
The visitors carried the momentum they gained on Tuesday with a hard fought, five set, win over Salem into the first set. Hollins won the first three points of the night but the lead was short lived as Shenandoah stormed back and built a four point lead deep into the opener, 18-14. Hollins rallied and after tying the match, raced past the Hornets to take the opening game, 25-21. Shenandoah didn't allow their guests to enjoy the win for long as the Hornets used a near error free attack, 10 kills against just one error, to take the second set, 25-10. With the crowd on their side, the Hornets broke open a tight game by winning four of the final five points to take the frame, 25-21, and a 2-1 lead into the fourth set. Any thoughts of a Hollins upset were taken away early as Shenandoah took the lead and never looked back en route to another 25-10 win, claiming the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory, 3-1.
Coming off a career high 21 kills, first-year hitter Deja Hadden (Norfolk, VA) registered nine kills on 23 attempts with just two errors. Rikki Martinez (Corpus Christi, TX) recorded seven kills, five digs, and a service ace while fellow senior Emily Lowther (Woodbridge, VA) added five kills, three assists, three digs, and a block. Middle hitters Jordan Persinger (New Castle, VA) and Amelia Eyles (Millwood, VA) each block three Hornet attacks and setter Lela Moore (Woodleaf, NC) handed out 19 assists.
Elizabeth Lamont and Allie Pieper each recorded 13 kills as Shenandoah used a 57-28 kill advantage to pull away from their visitors.
This marks the end of the 2015 regular season for a Hollins team that will not qualify for the eight team, end of season, ODAC Tournament.
