Box Score Salem, VA -Moody field became unplayable due to the heavy rains, forcing the Hollins vs. Eastern Mennonite women's soccer game to be moved to the turf field at Roanoke College. The Royals, playing their second match in as many days, used a big first half to pick up the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win, 10-0.
Eastern Mennonite got on the board early when they scored off of a corner kick less than three minutes into the contest. Hollins found their footing and kept their guests out of the zone for the next several minutes of play. However, the Royals re-established control in the Hollins zone, netting three goals in a three and a half minute stretch, pushing the lead to 4-0.
The second half saw a much better defensive effort by a Hollins team that generated a pair of good scoring chances. Midfielder Kally Saffer (Winston-Salem, NC) sent a pass over the defense to a streaking Christina Havrila (Ruckersville, VA), giving Hollins their best opportunity to break the shutout. Havrila pounded a shot to the lower left side of the net, but a fantastic, diving play by Becca Borg kept Hollins off the score board by using her outstretched fingertips to direct the ball wide of the goal. Audrey Haisley (Ashburn, VA) made 10 stops, giving the sophomore an ODAC leading 166 saves on the season.
Elisa Ott led the EMU attack by scoring three goals while Morgan Hill and Kristyn Garlow added two scores apiece. Emma Petersheim handed out two helpers and Borg recorded a pair of saves in goal.
Hollins will warp up the season on the same field when they travel to Roanoke College to face the Maroons on Saturday afternoon. The Halloween matchup is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm.
