Box Score Roanoke, VA - Wednesday afternoon saw the defending NCAA DIII National Champion, Lynchburg College come to campus. Lynchburg brought a perfect, 6-0, conference record along with a #4 national ranking into the matchup.
Hollins faced the daunting task of trying to pick up their first ODAC win of the season against the perennial conference and national power. The Hornets wasted little time in getting onto the scoreboard. In the first three minutes of play, Hannah Olds took a pair of passes from Jade Woll to net two quick goals for the nationally ranked Hornets. Olds then handed out an assist of her own by sending a crossing pass to the waiting foot of Alexandra O'Leary to add to the lead. Hollins faced 24 first half shots as the majority of the action took place in front of their own goal. At the half, Lynchburg enjoyed a 6-0 lead. The Hornets took full advantage of their deep and talented roster, having all 30 players see time during the game. Hollins did a solid job of keeping Lynchburg from adding to their advantage but in the end, the Hornets were just too much and Hollins fell 11-0.
Hollins goalkeeper Audrey Haisley (Ashburn, VA) recorded five stops while three different Hollins defenders blocked Lynchburg shots.
Olds led the way for the Hornets with two goals and an assist. 11 different Lynchburg offensive players collected at least one point while a trio of goalkeepers combined for the shutout.
Hollins will be traveling this weekend for a game under the lights at Emory & Henry. Hollins takes on the Wasps on Saturday night at 7:30pm.
