Hollins Welcomes ODAC Leader

Box Score

Roanoke, VA - Thursday night saw Hollins welcome Randolph-Macon to town for a volleyball matchup.. The Yellow Jackets came into the game with a perfect, 4-0, conference record after exacting some revenge on a Lynchburg College team that knocked them out of last year's ODAC Tournament.

Hollins needed to get off to a quick start against the powerful Yellow Jackets.  The game went back and forth for the opening points of the first game.  With the score tied at 4-4, Randolph-Macon went on a 6-0 run to gain the first advantage of the night.  Hollins took a timeout to stem the tide but after winning a point, Hollins once again saw their visitors extend the lead by winning the next five points.  The two teams played each other even the rest of the way with the Yellow Jackets taking the opening game, 25-15.  Game two started with Randolph-Macon taking 10 of the first 15 points.  Hollins started to trim the lead, cutting it to just two points, 13-11.  From that point on, the Yellow Jackets won 12 of the final 17 points en route to building a 2-0 lead.  Hollins looked to pull off the upset in the third game but with the score 11-8, Randolph-Macon gained momentum and forced a Hollins timeout.  The stoppage of play nor the Hollins defense could stop the Yellow Jackets and on the back of 15 kills, Macon outscored the home team 14-4 to end the game and take the match, 3-0.

Deja Hadden (Norfolk, VA) recorded nine kills on her 21 attacks, adding three digs and two blocks.  Senior Jordan Persinger (New Castle, VA) added four kills and a block while Lela Moore (Woodleaf, NC) handed out a team high 19 assists.

All ODAC senior Courtney Lowers led the Yellow Jacket attack with eight kills and a pair of service aces.  Randolph-Macon used a balanced attack by seeing 13 different players combine for 45 kills.  Riley Martin and Erin Quinn combined to hand out 39 of the Yellow Jackets 44 assists.

Hollins will have the weekend off while their prepare for Eastern Mennonite.  The Royals will be on campus Tuesday night for a 7:00pm start.
