Box Score

Roanoke, VA - The Hollins volleyball team plays host to their second ODAC opponent in as many matches when they welcome Lynchburg College on Friday night.  The Hornets come into the matchup having just lost a tough five set match to Washington and Lee, likewise Hollins fell  to Emory & Henry in their conference opener on Tuesday night.  The winner of the match will get right back into the thick of the conference standings while the loser faces an uphill battle at 0-2.

Hollins was looking to get off to a quick start against their visitors from the Hill City.  However it was Lynchburg that raced out to a 15-10 lead.  After a Hollins timeout, the home team mounted a bit of a rally and forced the Hornet coaches to take a timeout of their own.  Hollins had cut the lead to three points but could get no closer as the visitors took the opener, 25-21.  The second set saw Hollins gain the upper hand early, scoring three straight to start the frame. Hollins held the lead throughout the first part of the set.  Lynchburg took their first lead, 12-11, before a Hollins timeout.  The home team was unable to stop the Hornets momentum and at the end of the set, found themselves in a 2-0 hole.  The third set saw Lynchburg start with five of the sets first six points.  Hollins battled back and cut the lead to 17-19 late.  The Hornets scored six of the matches final eight points to sweep Hollins 3-0.

Senior middle Lauren Hays (Saginaw, TX) helped to keep Hollins in the match by recording 11 kills on her 29 attacks as well as helping out on a pair of blocks.  Libero Haley Ortiz (Portsmouth, VA) once again led Hollins on the back line with 12 digs and setter Lela Moore (Woodleaf, NC) added 21 more assists to her season total.  Jessie Deese (Cary, NC) registered six kills, an assist, and seven digs.

Aricquel Payne finished 16 of her 26 attacks with a kill helping Lynchburg enjoy a 47-25 kill advantage at the net.  Lynn Walsh led the way with 29 helpers while Payne and Sam Page led the team with 11 digs each.

After playing their first two ODAC matches, Hollins will now step out of conference when they travel to Salem College on Wednesday night.
