Roanoke, VA - The Hollins University volleyball team returned home after a two game road trip that saw them face off with two of the top three teams in the conference.  Tuesday night Hollins defended their home court against ODAC leading Washington and Lee in their third consecutive match against the league's elite teams.

Hollins needed to get off to a quick start against the powerful Generals.  However, it was the visitors that enjoyed an early lead when they raced out to a 4-1 advantage.  Hollins battled back and used a rowdy crowd to draw strength and gain some momentum.  The home team trimmed the lead to two, 7-9.  Washington and Lee then regained their early stride by winning six of the next nine points and forcing a Hollins timeout.  Hollins could not stop the Generals run and as the set came to a close, it was W&L with a 25-17 win.  The second set again saw the visitors from Lexington build a solid lead, 13-8.  Hollins came storming back to score five straight points and tie the set at 13-13.  From that point on, W&L slowly pulled away and took the second set, 25-19.  The third set was all Washington and Lee as the Generals left no doubt en route to building a 20-8 advantage.  The third and final set went to the ODAC leaders, 25-14, as they ran their conference mark to 6-0.

Lauren Hays (Saginaw, TX) led Hollins with seven kills and a pair of blocks.  Setter Lela Moore (Woodleaf, NC) put forth a nice all around effort with two kills, 18 assists, five digs, and a pair of assisted blocks.  Jordan Persinger (New Castle, VA) and Amelia Eyles (Millwood, VA) each added a pair of blocks while libero Haley Ortiz (Portsmouth, VA) recorded a team and match high 14 digs.

Washington and Lee enjoyed a huge advantage at the net as they recorded 46 kills to Hollins 21.  Kasey Cannon led the Generals with 14 kills while teammate Anna Lausberg added 11.  First year setter Elena West, from Roanoke, handed out 36 assists will registering nine digs and three service aces.  Katie Volk led a trio of Generals in double digits with 13 digs.

Hollins will wrap up their home ODAC schedule next Tuesday when Guilford College comes to campus for a 6:30 match.
