Va. Beach, VA - For the second time in less than 24 hours, the Hollins volleyball team took the court against ODAC competition.  After facing ODAC leading Randolph-Macon on Thursday night, Hollins continued their travels to the eastern shore for a match with Virginia Wesleyan.  The Marlins came into the matchup looking to keep pace with the conference leaders while Hollins entered the night looking to move up the standings.

Virginia Wesleyan wasted no time in taking control of the contest.  The home team took full advantage of a road weary Hollins team in taking the opener, 25-17.  The second set saw more of the same with Virginia Wesleyan taking the lead early and never letting Hollins gain any momentum allowing the Marlins to gain a 2-0 advantage.  In the third set, Hollins dug deep and as the set neared the end, the two rivals were tied 17-17.  However, the visitors could get no closer as Virginia Wesleyan won eight of the final 10 points to claim the set, 25-19, and the match.

Middle Lauren Hays (Saginaw, TX) led Hollins with seven kills and a block.  Fellow senior Jessie Deese (Cary, NC) added six kills, three service aces, and assists and a team high nine digs.  Rikki Martinez (Corpus Christi, TX) recorded five kills and three digs while setter Lela Moore (Woodleaf, NC) handed out 17 assists to go with her five kills.

The Marlins enjoyed a 12 kill advantage at the net led by Alex Lambert's 13 kills.  Tiffany Barrett added eight kills and Kirstin Sessoms had a match high 19 assists.

Hollins will return home next Tuesday but the competition doesn't get any easier.  Washington and Lee is the opponent and marks the third straight match against the three best teams in the conference.
