Bridgewater, VA - The Hollins volleyball team entered play on Friday night in the second game of a season ending seven game road trip.  Hollins faced off with Bridgewater College in the first of back to back matches in the Harrisonburg area over the weekend.

Hollins got off to a slow start as the home standing Eagles jumped on their visitors from the opening serve.  The Eagles built up a huge lead en route to winning the first set, 25-6.  However, the second set was a completely different story as the Hollins turned the tables on their hosts.  Hollins took an early lead and quickly built their advantage to double digits.  Bridgewater didn't quit and slowly cut into the deficit.  Hollins found themselves tied with the Eagles late in the set but the visitors dug deep and took the second set, 25-23, to even the match at a set apiece.  As had been the case in the first two sets, the team with all the momentum was unable to hold onto control of the match.  The third set once again saw Bridgewater build an early lead and keep Hollins from making any significant runs to cut into the lead.  The Eagles took the lead, 2-1, after winning the set, 25-16.  The fourth and eventual final set saw Hollins hang around until a late Bridgewater run put the match away with a 25-21 final set victory.

Lauren Hays (Saginaw, TX) and Rikki Martinez (Corpus Christi, TX) led Hollins at the net.  Hays recorded 11 kills while Martinez added seven.  Haley Ortiz (Portsmouth, VA) added 16 digs to her team leading total and Lela Moore (Woodleaf, NC) returned to action to hand out 21 assists.  Hays registered four total blocks and fellow middle Amelia Eyles (Millwood, VA) added three.

Megann Grimes recorded a match high 14 kills and teammates Abby Mills and Rachel Kinsey each added nine.  Shannon Skellchock led the way with 38 assists while Mills led the team with 16 digs.

Hollins will stay overnight in the Shenandoah Valley as they have a date with Eastern Mennonite tomorrow at noon.
