Box Score

Salem, VA - The annual cross town match up of volleyball rivals took place on Tuesday night.  Hollins traveled to their neighbor to the south, Roanoke College in a match between teams coming off much different outcomes.  Hollins fell to Salem College on Senior Night while the Maroons were riding high having knocked off ODAC leading Washington and Lee.

The match couldn't have started better for the home team.  Roanoke won the opening point and from that point on continued to build their lead.  Hollins trailed 5-10 to start the match but the visitors took five of the next seven points to close the gap to 10-12.  That was as close as Hollins would get as the Maroons took control of the opening set and cruised to a 25-16 victory.  The second set once again saw Roanoke race out to a lead.  However, Hollins battled back to make it a contest when they cut the Roanoke lead to 18-17.  The Maroons regained the momentum and pulled away late to win the second, 25-21.  The third set was all Roanoke as the home team didn't allow Hollins to get anything going by taking a double digit lead 20-10.  Hollins could not cut into the Maroons lead and the match ended with a 25-16 third set, giving Roanoke a 3-0 ODAC victory.

Hollins struggled at the net recording just 14 kills while committing 21 errors.  Jordan Persinger (New Castle, VA) led the Hollins attack with seven kills.  Senior Lauren Hays (Saginaw, TX) added five kills and was involved in eight of Hollins 10 blocks.  Haley Ortiz (Portsmouth, VA) led teh team with 12 digs and setter Lela Moore (Woodleaf, NC) handed out a team high 13 assists.

Roanoke used a 33-14 advantage in kills and 11 service aces to keep Hollins at arms length all night long.  Macey Tyree led the team with nine kills while Sarah Long added seven and Logan Graves has six of her own.  Jessica Block had 13 assists and four service aces and Alexandra Martin had a team high 15 assists and a service ace.

Hollins will continue their ODAC road trip with a pair of games in the Shenandoah Valley this weekend.  Hollins will make a stop at Bridgewater on Friday night before heading to Eastern Mennonite on Saturday.
