Box Score Roanoke, VA - Hollins played hosted to Shenandoah University in the first of two matchups with the Hornets this season. The game is considered as a non-conference game as the rematch in Winchester will have the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win up for grabs in late January. Hollins failed to win their second consecutive game of the season as Shenandoah used 10 of 15 shooting from beyond the arc to claim a 70-48 victory.
The game got started as the two ODAC foes traded scoring runs. The Hornets opened the game on a 4-0 run before the home team responded with seven straight points to take the lead. However, it was once again Shenandoah's turn as the Hornets scored the next 11 points to push their advantage to 15-7. Trailing by six at the start of the second quarter, Hollins saw their guests rattle off seven straight to build the lead into double-digits. With the clock winding down, first-year guard Emalee Jimenez (Westbury, NY) got fouled on a buzzer beating three pointer and promptly sank a pair of free throws to make the score 37-29 at the break.
After cutting the lead to just six points, Hollins saw another barrage of long range shots from the Hornets. Shenandoh went 5-7 in the first half and nearly matched that feat by hitting on 5-8 second half three pointers to put the game away. As the final horn sounded, Hollins had fallen, 70-48, to their ODAC rivals.
Jewellanna Parfitt (Roanoke, VA) had a big first half to help keep Hollins close and finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds, posting her second consecutive double-double. Parfiit added a game high four steals while first-year point guard Nikki Valencia (Pearland, TX) added 10 points and four rebounds before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Senior Auburn Smith (Las Vegas, NV) enjoyed the best game of her final season by recording nine points, five rebounds, and two assists.
Kirstyn Arcata hit all five of her three point attempts en route to a game high 21 points. Shannon Kuhn scored 11, all in the second half, and Mia Moore came off the bench to add 10. Erin French grabbed 14 rebounds to help the Hornets win the battle of the boards, 47-38.
Hollins will go on the road for the first time this weekend, starting with a trip to the nation's capital to face Trinity DC on Friday night.
