Missed Opportunities For Hollins

Box Score

Roanoke, VA -The Hollins basketball team hosted Randolph College in an ODAC matchup on Saturday afternoon.  The home team was looking to turn the tables on the WildCats after losing by seven earlier in the season at Randolph.  A single point separated the conference foes with about 9:30 left to play, but the visiting WildCats went on a 10-2 run to put away their hosts, 57-47 and pick up the ODAC victory.

Hollins trailed by as many as 10 points during a first half that saw neither team look very crisp on the offensive end of the floor.  Hollins made a late rally to cut the deficit to six, 26-20, heading into the break.

After having seen Guilford use an early second half run to put the game away on Wednesday night, Hollins attacked the rim with much more purpose against Randolph and the home team began to slowly trim the lead.  As the clock ticked under the 10 minute mark, Hollins had cut the WildCat lead to 33-32.  The visitors used a 6-0 run, including 4-4 from the free throw line, to regain control of the game.  Hollins would hit a pair of free throws to halt the Randolph run but it wasn't enough as the Wilcats continued to build the lead.  Hollins would play their visitors even the rest of the way but couldn't make any sort of dent in the lead as Randolph secured the 57-47 ODAC win.

Hollins struggled on the offensive end of the floor throughout much of the afternoon.  24.6% shooting for the game made it hard for Hollins to build or sustain any sort of momentum.  The Hollins defense did its job, holding the WildCats to just over 32% from the field, but the offense just never got on track.

Jewellanna Parfitt (Roanoke, VA) paced the team with 16 points, the only Hollins player to reach double digits.  Parfitt added seven rebounds, two steals, and two of Hollins seven blocked shots.  Senior Britney Campbell (Silver Spring, MD) added seven points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and four blocks on her "Senior Day".  Campbell and fellow four year player Racheal Crowder (Buena Vista, VA) were honored prior to tip-off for their stellar service to the Hollins basketball program.  Kaitlyn Taylor (Gastonia, NC) got the start at forward and helped the Hollins defensive cause by drawing a pair of charging fouls against the WildCats as well as grabbing 10 rebounds and scoring five points.

The senior forward duo of Jensen Hoover and Allie Druffel.  Hoover led Randolph with 20 points and 14 rebounds while her front court partner added 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Hollins will step out of conference tomorrow when Salem College comes to Roanoke for a 2:00pm tip.
