The Basics

The Lead: The Hollins soccer team opened the 2026 campaign with a Labor Day visit from Piedmont University. The Lions made their way from Georgia and struck first, scoring off a rebound save to make it 1-0. Five minutes later the visitors made it 2-0 off a nice crossing pass. Hollins answered with a tough angle shot and the score was 2-1, less than 20 minutes into the match. Another Piedmont tally sent the match into the half. The second half was played to a stalemate for most of the afternoon. The Lions added a pair of late scores to make the final 5-1.

Highlights 
  • At the 8:49 mark, Piedmont got the scoring started when Jordyn Harris picked up a rebound in front of the net and made it 1-0. Five minutes later, Piedmont used a nice crossing pass to an open attacker to increase their advantage to 2-0.
  • Hollins would answer when Lida Krodel took the ball to the left side of the goal and was able to send a hard angle shot to the top right corner of the goal.
  • The Lions enjoyed an 18-3 shot edge in the first half but thanks to the Hollins defense making eight saves and a pair of blocks, the score was 3-1 at the break.
  • The score would remain the same until the 75th minute when they were awarded a corner kick on the left side. Laalia Temkit sent a high arching ball into the box, and it was headed to the back of the net for a 4-1 lead. In the closing minutes Piedmont wrapped up the scoring with a one-on-one opportunity.
  • Senior Grace Glerum got the start in goal and recorded 12 saves before being lifted for the final eight minutes of play. Defender Rachel Hull was able to get in front a couple of shots and the defense made a great team stop late int eh second half.
  • Krodel and Evelyn Keefer each attempted two shots with Krodel accounting for the lone score.
