The Lead:Â For the second time in three days the Hollins soccer team was defending Berkley Field against Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) competition when Bridgewater made the 100 mile trip south on Interstate 81. The Easles controlled much of the first half action and used a large shot edge to take a 6-0 lead into the half. Out of the break, the Hollins defense was able to hold its' own with their rested legs, keeping Bridgewater scoreless for 20 minutes. However, the deeper Eagles began to wear down Hollins and Bridgewater would pull away for the 12-0 ODAC win.
HighlightsÂ
- A pair of BC goals in the opening 10 minutes gave the visitors all the momentum.
- At the 22-minute mark, Hollins got a great scoring chance, but the Caylie Nichols shot that was heading into the center of the Eagles goal was saved.
- About 10 minutes into the second half, the Hollins defense made a tremendous team save when the ball got past the HU keeper. A pair of defensive players retreated to the goal line and kept Bridgewater from increasing their advantage.
- BC finally broke through for their first second half score and pulled away the remaining 25 minutes for the conference win.
- For the second consecutive match, Zoe Baxter got the start in goal and recorded her second straight double-digit save effort with 10 stops.
