The Lead:Â Hollins was back in the van on Saturday morning with a second trip to Lynchburg this weekend. The Green and Gold fell to Randolph in a close match Friday night and had to be back in the court this morning against a University of Lynchburg team that sits near the top of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) standings. The Hornets would control play throughout the match winning in straight sets thanks in part to a 43-18 advantage at the net.
HighlightsÂ
- Hollins fell to Lynchburg 14-25, 13-25, 19-25.
- The Hornets enjoyed a 43-18 edge in kills, leading to a 61-28 edge in points scored.
- Lynchburg used 8-2 starts in each of the first two sets to race out to a 2-0 lead.
- In the third set, Hollins battled and took an early edge after a Meredith Crawley ace and two Hornet miscues staked HU to a 10-6 lead. However, the heavily favored home team scored the next eight points to pull away for the s-0 sweep of Hollins.
- Cassidy Henderson, Aliyah Lightsey, and Abby Neel each recorded three kills. Laken Tingler had a team high nine assists with Crawley serving a pair of winners.
- Norah Madrey assisted on six blocks giving the sophomore a team high 34 blocks on the season. Crawley added eight more digs to her season total of 48.
Up Next: On Tuesday night, Hollins makes their third trip to the Lynchburg area when they travel to Sweet Briar for a 6:30 match against the Squirrels.
