The Lead: Weather would cause a delay in the start of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) schedule for the Hollins soccer team. The originally scheduled conference opener against Eastern Mennonite was rescheduled, sending the Green and Gold on ethe road for their ODAC debut. Hollins traveled to face undefeated Lynchburg on the Hornets home turf and the home team greeted HU with five first half goals on their way to a 9-0 conference win and an 8-0 start to the 2026 season, the final for long time head coach Dr. Todd Olsen.
Highlights
- Just two minutes into the match, the Hornets got the first of the afternoon. The Hornets added a second three minutes later and scored for the third time just 30 seconds thereafter.
- The Hollins defense settled in and the remaining 40 minutes of the first half would see a much more competitive product.
- The 79th minute would see Hollins best scoring opportunity when first-year Casie Turner sent a shot into the middle of the crease but the scoring chance was saved by the Lynchburg keeper.
- The visitors would get just the one scoring chance as Lynchburg picked up their second conference win of the season, 9-0.
- Turner led Hollins in shots. In goal, Grace Glerum got the start and recorded four saves before giving way to Zoe Baxter for the final 10 minutes of action.
