The Lead:Â Hollins played their fourth consecutive non-conference home match with a visit from Mid-Atlantic Christian University on Saturday afternoon. Hollins took advantage of a short-handed Mustang squad and dominated play in the MACU zone for most of the first 45 minutes of play. Despite 18 Mustang saves, Hollins took a 7-0 lead into the half. The second half would be cut short as a pair of MACU injuries deleted the Mustangs roster and the match ended at the 70
th minute mark once it became official. Hollins picked up their first win of the season with a 12-0 win.
HighlightsÂ
- In the first 10 minutes of play Hollins netted a pair of goals. Jaelynn Carter scored off a feed from Caylie Nichols and two minutes later, Isabella Byron scored her first goal off an assist from Raynia Russell.
- Byron added a helper when she sent a shot off the top crossbar to an awaiting Evelin Lemus-Arriaga.
- HU made it 5-0 when Lida Krodel scored off the corner kick. Keefer scored again with a header off another Krodel corner. Then Keefer made it two in a row with her second score that was set up by Lemus-Arriaga.
- Russell and Tess Doughty each recorded two points in the second half. Russell scored off Krodel's second assist of the game before setting up Macy Lieb with her first HU score. Doughty had back-to back assists on goals by Cadie Ellingson and Kendra Staten.
- Keefer had 12 shots on her way to the hat trick. Byron attempted eight shots with Nichols taking seven. Hollins attempted 58 shots with 38 being on target. Grace Glerum picked up the shut-out in goal for the Green and Gold.
Up Next: Hollins opened Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play next week with a visit from Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday evening. The match with the Royals is scheduled to start at 5:00pm.
