The Lead: For the second time in 48 hours, the Hollins soccer team was in action defending Berkley Field. HU took on William Peace University on Monday evening. The first half would see each team attempt six shots and record three saves; however, it was the Pacers that broke through to net the first goal of the match. Minutes into the second half Hollins looked to tie the score but the Pacer keeper made a save to keep the slim edge. With less than 10 minutes to play, WPU added another tally and held on for a 2-0 win.
Highlights
- Isabella Byron and Raynia Russell each got scoring chances in the opening minutes of play. At the 21:12 mark William Peace was able to take advantage of an open opportunity to take a 1-0 advantage.
- At the half Hollins was down by a goal despite the stats being dead even in shots and saves.
- Less than four minutes into the second frame, Evelyn Keefer sent a pass across the goal to an open Caylie Nichols. Nichols sent a shot to the bottom right corner of net, but it was saved by a diving keeper.
- The 76:54 mark would see Hollins have a golden opportunity to tie the match but the shot off the foot of Byron hit the right post and caromed out of play. 10 minutes later, the Pacers would add to their lead and go on to a 2-0 road win.
- Byron paced HU with five shots, two on goal and one off the post. Nichols and Keefer each added a pair of shots. Grace Glerum went the distance in net and recorded seven saves.
Up Next: Hollins wraps up a four-match home stand on Saturday with a visit from Mid-Atlantic Christian. The match with the Mustangs is scheduled to start at 1:00pm.
