Records: Hollins 14-9 / 6-8 ODAC | Generals 23-0 / 14-0 ODAC
The Lead:Â Hollins made the trip to Lexington to face the #4 team in the nation when they took the floor against Washington and Lee. The Generals brought a perfect overall and conference record into the second meeting of the two Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rivals. W&L wasted little time in establishing control, racing out to a 28-10 first quarter advantage. The Generals completely shut down the Hollins offense in the second quarter and took a huge lead into the locker room. HU would be outscored in each of the four quarters on their way to their second loss to the Generals this season, 118-51.
HighlightsÂ
- After W&L raced out to an 8-0 lead, Hollins got baskets from Zaria Holden and Jacorra Russell. Sarah Morales made it a 6-0 run after a pair of free throws. However, the Generals would close the quarter with a 20-4 run to seize firm control of the matchup.
- An 18-point run to start the second frame would all but put the game away before the break. Abby Kingery scored to stop the run but Hollins would only get a Noelani Carter layup in a quarter that saw Hollins score just four points.
- Holden hit a free throw and an interior basket followed by Morales in transition as Hollins played their hosts even to start the second half. A Carter layup in the closing seconds would stop an 8-0 Washington and Lee run.
- Russell and Gracie Huffard combined for a 7-4 Hollins run midway through the fourth quarter. Hollins would shoot 65% in the fourth period but Washington and Lee stayed perfect on the season with the 118-51 home win.
- Morales was the only Hollins player in double figures with 10. Holden added nine points with Russell scoring eight points and grabbing seven rebounds.
Up Next:Â Hollins looks to get back on track with a trip to Randolph College on Tuesday night. The game with the WildCats is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00pm.
