The Basics
Score:
 Hollins 52, Lynchburg 54
Records: Hollins 14-8 / 6-7 ODAC | Hornets 11-11 / 5-8 ODAC

The Lead: For the second time this season, Hollins played the University of Lynchburg in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play. Hollins defeated the Hornets in Lynchburg in early December and looked to complete the season sweep. The visitors would break a late first quarter with six consecutive points to take a 15-9 advantage. Hollins trimmed the gap to a single point before a Lynchburg hoop would make it 26-23 at the half. The Hornets would push their advantage to eight points, their largest of the night, before HU scored to make it six-point spread. Trailing by eight, Hollins mounted a furious rally and used a 6-0 run to make it a one possession game. Hollins got even closer, but Lynchburg was able to hold on in the end for a 54-52 win.

Highlights
  • Jacorra Russell and Zaria Holden staked Hollins to an early lead. Lynchburg used a 7-0 surge to take their first lead of the game. Holden hit a 3-pointer to tie the score at 9-9 only to see the Hornets score the final six points for a 15-9 edge.
  • Hollins again started a quarter by scoring first. Back-to-back buckets by Russell, Holden, and Sarah Morales knotted the score at 15-15. The lead would grow back to five in the closing minutes. Gracie Huffard connected from 18-feet and Morales would score to make it a one-point game. Lynchburg scored in the closing seconds to take a 26-23 lead into the locker room.
  • The Hornets surged ahead by eight when Hollins answered with a Holden layup and Erin Allen free throw. Trailing by eight, Noelani Carter hit a pair of free throws to make it 40-34 with one period left to play.
  • A pair of Lynchburg free throws would make it 47-39 with less than 5:00 on the clock. A Holden jump shot followed by two Morales free throws and a Russell tip in and the deficit was down to two. The lead was pushed back to five, but Missy Hazard hit a three-pointer to get back within a single possession. The Hornets hit one of two, allowing Carter to score at the hoop to make it 53-52. Lynchburg once again made the first and missed the second, but a long potential game winning shot was off the mark and the Hornets held on for the 54-52 win.
  • Holden scored a game high 15 points. Russell had a double-double with 10 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks, and three steals. Morales and Carter each added eight points with Huffard grabbing a game high 13 rebounds.
