Score:

Records: Hollins 14-5 / 6-4 ODAC | Quakers 5-14 / 0-10 ODAC

The Lead: Saturday afternoon would be Senior Day for the Hollins basketball program. Prior to the opening top with Eastern Mennonite, Hollins took an opportunity to honor her graduating seniors. After the ceremony, the two Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foes met for the second time this season, Hollins picked up an 81-65 road win earlier this month. Hollins used the energy from the big home crowd to start the game on a 19-3 run and take firm control of the matchup. The lead would grow to 22 at the half and during the second half, the Green and Gold would continue to pull away and at the final horn, pick up an 84-51 conference win, their sixth of the season.

Highlights
  • Seniors Ariana Gutierrez and Noelani Carter were honored for all they have done for Hollins and the basketball program in a pre-game ceremony. After the festivities, Sarah Morales and Jacorra Russell got the scoring started. Abby Kingery hit from long range to push the lead into double-digits and after back-to-back hoops by Erin Allen, the HU run to start the game was 19-3.
  • Allen would give Hollins her first 20point advantage. A Missy Hazard three and free throw by Zaria Holden gave Hollins her largest lead of the first half, 40-14.
  • Up 22 to start the third quarter, Carter made a pair of free throws to push the lead to 30 and an Allen layup made it a 34-point cushion.
  • After an EMU run, back-to-back three-pointers by Guiterrez re-established control for Hollins as HU would pull away for the 84-51 ODAC win.
  • Hollins had four scorers in double figures led by 17 apiece from Holden and Morales. Russell finished with 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. Allen came off the bench to net 12 points, a season high and tying her career high set against Guilford in 2024. Carter scored six to go with seven boards and eight steals. The eight takeaways were the most in any single game of her career and Carter joins a group of only six Hollins players in history with 200+ steals.
Up Next: Hollins makes the short trip to Salem to take on Roanoke College in a cross-town matchup. The game with the Maroons is scheduled to tip at 7:00pm on Wednesday night, February 4th.
