The Lead: Hollins played host to Guilford on Wednesday night in a battle of teams tied at 5-3 in the most current Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) standings. Each team took a turn in the lead but if would be the visitors from North Carolina with a 15-11 lead after one period of play. The Quakers extended their advantage to eight, 28-20, at the half. Hollins struggled to score coming out of the locker room as they watched Guilford push their advantage to 20 points in the third quarter. Hollins rallied in the fourth quarter and scored the final four points of the game to make it 55-45 at the buzzer.

Highlights 
  • Sarah Morales hit a game opening jump shot to put HU in front. The Quakers scored the next four before Morales and Zaria Holden answered as the game went back and forth. Four lead changes and three ties culminated with Guilford leading 15-11 after the opening frame.
  • Trailing by 10, Gracie Huffard scored on a jump shot and Missy Hazard connected from long range to cut the deficit in half. With just over a minute left on the clock, Guilford scored inside and made the free throw to complete the three-point play and take an eight-point edge into the half.
  • Hollins didn't score the first five minutes of the second half and found themselves in a 20-point hole. Erin Allen made one of two free throws to break the scoring drought. Jacorra Russell scored inside and Huffard connected to make it a 5-0 run, but Hollins wouldn't score again in the quarter and trailed by 17 heading to the fourth.
  • Russell scored four straight to get Hollins closer. Each time Hollins tried to cut the lead below double digits, the Quakers would find an answer. Holden and Morales wrapped up the scoring and at the final buzzer, Hollins got to within 10 points, 55-45.
  • Russell posted another double-double with 10 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Morales finished with 10 and seven boards. Holden battled foul trouble to finish with nine points and five rebounds while Allen recorded five points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Huffard came off the bench to register six points, 10 rebounds, and two block shots.
Up Next: Hollins is scheduled to host Eastern Mennonite on Saturday at 2:00pm. Prior to the tip with the Royals, the Green and Gold plans to honor her two seniors in a pre-game ceremony.
