The Lead: The Hollins basketball team welcomed the Generals of Washington and Lee to the main gym for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup on Wednesday night. The Generals are ranked 6th in the nation in the most current WBCA NCAA DIII Coaches Poll. Hollins used a 10-2 run to take an early lead. However, the visitors battled back and closed the first quarter with all the momentum and a 24-16 lead. A 13-3 run got the Green and gold to within two points before W&L pulled away for a 10-point halftime advantage. The second half would see Hollins get to within five but couldn't get any closer as the nationally ranked Generals picked up the ODAC win, 78-61.

Highlights 
  • Washington and Lee struck first with a three-pointer before Zaria Holden scored 10 consecutive points to put HU in front 10-5. The Generals tied the score at 12-12 and then closed the first quarter on a 12-4 surge for a 24-16 edge.
  • Down 12, Jacorra Russell and Holden combined scored 11 points and with a Gracie Huffard jump shot, Hollins had come back to make it a two-point game with 5:17 left in the half. A 10-2 W&L close to the quarter made it 41-31 at the break.
  • The Generals pushed their lead to 12 before a Hollins rally. Free throws by Russell and Erin Allen followed by a Sarah Morales layup and Hollins was back to within two scores. However, W&L regained control and took a 63-50 lead into the fourth quarter.
  • Both teams slowed down on the offensive end of the floor during the final 10-minutes. Washington and Lee took the frame, 15-11, and picked up stayed undefeated with a 78-61 conference win.
  • Holden was 7-7 and 3-3 from the 3-point line in a first-half that saw the junior score 19 points but found herself saddled with three personal fouls. She ended the game with a team high of 21 points. Russell added 15 while Morales finished with 13. Huffard had eight points, six rebounds, and four blocked shots. Noelani Carter recorded four steals with Kennedy Leggett handing out four assists.  
Up Next: Hollins takes to the road on Saturday with a trip to Bridgewater College. The game with the Eagles is scheduled to tip at 4:40pm.
