The Basics
Score:
 Hollins 5, Sweet Briar 1
Records: Hollins 3-4-0 / 1-1-0 ODAC | Vixens 4-3-0 / 0-2-0 ODAC

The Lead: After opening Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play at Bridgewater, Hollins traveled to Sweet Briar to take on the Vixens with each team looking to pick up an ODAC victory. Hollins used a big first half to take a 4-0 lead into the break. Each team would net a goal in the second half, but when the final horn sounded, Hollins had defeated her arch rivals for the second consecutive season and moved up in the ODAC standings with a 5-1 road win.

Highlights:
  • First year forward Valtinique Simmons scored twice in a one-minute span to put HU in front. At the 28:23 mark of the first half, Simmons took a feed from Evelyn Keefer to make it 1-0. Just one minute later, the striker from the Bahamas made it 2-0 off a pass by fellow first year Lida Krodel.
  • Over the final 15 minutes of the opening half, Keefer added a pair of scores to go with her assist and Hollins was well on their way to their first ODAC win of the season. Both Keefer tallies were assisted by Izzy Workman as the Green and Gold dominated the opening half.
  • Sweet Briar would get on the board at the 62-minute mark, but Workmen netted her fifth goal of the season to make the final 5-1.
  • The weather made the field unplayable, and the match was called once it became official at the 72:16 mark.
  • The two long-time rivals would each get 10 shots of goal, but the HU defense anchored by T Shover and her nine saves on the back end.
  • Evelin Lemus-Arriaga and Hayley Ponn joined the three goal scores to account for the Hollins shots that were on target.
  • The win was the second consecutive win over Sweet Briar, Hollins won last season, 3-1.
Up Next: Hollins returns home for a trio of matches starting with a visit from Guilford on October 1st. The match with the Quakers is scheduled to start at 4:00pm on Berkley Field.
