The Lead: A rare February, non-conference, matchup with Christendom took place on a Saturday afternoon that saw several Hollins basketball alums came back to campus. Hollins started slowly but used a 12-2 run in the second quarter to seize control. The Green and Gold used 10 made threes on the afternoon to pull away for a 70-44, non-conference win.
Highlights
- The game was tied at 5-5 when Cabria Mutz scored on a three-point play and Noelani Carter scored on a jumper in the paint to see Hollins with a 12-9 lead after one period of play.
- A pair of 3-point field goals by Ariana Gutierrez and six points by fellow Texan Sarah Morales led a 12-2 surge to give Hollins the momentum and an 11-point halftime advantage.
- Baskets by Mutz, Carter, and Morales followed by back-to-back three-pointers by Gutierrez and HU was up 43-20.
- Missy Hazard connected from long range early int eh fourth to put the lead to 30. A jumper from Morales put Hollins at 70 points, their first time in the 70's since the turn of the calendar.
- Gutierrez finished with 23 points on 8-11 shooting, including seven from "downtown" in just missing her career high of 24. Mutz (14 points and 13 rebounds) and Morales (12 points and 11 assists) each recorded double-doubles with Hazard adding nine points. Mutz blocked two shots while Carter grabbed nine rebounds.
