 Hollins 47, Roanoke 69
Records: Hollins 11-10 / 4-9 ODAC | Maroons 13-10 / 9-5 ODAC

The Lead: A snowstorm in the Roanoke Valley caused the game to be moved from its original start time of 7pm to earlier in the afternoon. Hollins made the trip to Salem looking to complete the season sweep of the Maroons. HU started the game on an 8-0 run that was answered by Roanoke with a 15-0 surge of their own. Hollins trailed 27-25 early in the second half before a 14-0 run by the Maroons gave the home team control of the game as Roanoke would pull away for the 69-47 win.

Highlights
  • Sarah Morales scored on a pull up jump shot to open the scoring. Three-pointers by Ariana Gutierrez and Missy Hazard would see Hollins with an early 8-0 lead. However, RC would score the next 15 points to turn the tables on their cross-town rivals and see Hollins in a 17-9 deficit after the opening frame.
  • Noelani Carter and Zaria Holden scored four points to cut the deficit in half but Roanoke maintained the lead throughout the second quarter. A pair of Erin Allen free throws made the score 27-22 at the half.
  • Another 3-pointer by Gutierrez made it a one possession game before Roanoke used a 14-0 run to seize control. Morales and Allen scored seven straight points to make it 45-33 but Hollins would get no closer.
  • The home standing Maroons would use nine for 20 shooting from long range to hold off the Green and Gold from making any sort of rally.
  • Cabria Mutz scored seven points while grabbing 10 rebounds. The senior blocked six more shots, giving her an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) leading 72. Mutz came into the game ranked 3rd in the NCAA with 66 Blocks and 3.3 Blocks per Game. Morales battled foul trouble to lead Hollins with 13 points. Holden added eight points before fouling out with Allen and Gutierrez scoring six apiece.
Up Next: Hollins plays host to Bridgewater College on Saturday afternoon. The game with the Eagles is scheduled to tip at 2:00pm.
