The Lead: Hollins played host to Guilford on Wednesday night as the Green and Gold came into the game looking for a win to stay in the top eight of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) standings. The Quakers used a 6-8 start from the field to race out to a 14-0 advantage. Hollins closed to within five after the first 10 minutes of play. However, the visitors from Greensboro used a24-7 second frame to pull away for the 77-54, ODAC win.

Highlights
  • Guilford hit six of their first eight shots, including 3-3 from the 3-point line, to start the game on a 14-0 run. Three-pointers by Missy Hazard and Zaria Holden sparked an 8-0 Hollins surge to get back in the game. Ariana Gutierrez hit a shot from long range and an "old fashion" three-point play by Noelani Carter would get Hollins to within 24-19 after the first quarter.
  • Sarah Morales scored to stop a 7-0 run by the Quakers and Cabria Mutz scored inside to get the deficit into single digits. Guilford essentially put the game away by closing the half with 17 of the final 20 points.
  • Midway through the third, Hazard went on a personal 8-0 run to get HU wo within 16, but that was as close as they would get and trailed 64-40 going into the final period.
  • A free throw by Carter stopped a four-minute drought by both teams and although they were able to win the final quarter, 14-13, Hollins fell to the Quakers and out of the top eight in the conference standings.
  • Hazard came to within one point of her season high by leading the way with 16 points and two assists. Mutz finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, and seven blocked shots while Morales added 10 points, five boards, and a team high four helpers despite sitting for long stretches with foul trouble. Carter returned after a one-game absence with seven points, five rebounds, three assists, and six steals.
Up Next: Hollins will host Christendom on Saturday in a rare, February, non-conference matchup. The game with the Crusaders is scheduled to tip at 2:00pm.
