The Lead:Â Hollins went on the road looking to get back in the win column in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play when they went north to take on Shenandoah. The Hornets jumped on Hollins early, building a 26-9 advantage after one quarter of play. The two teams would play even for the remainder of the first half, sending Shenandoah into the locker room with a 17-point edge. A 12-0 run late in the third period would propel the Hornets to an 80-56, ODAC, win.
HighlightsÂ
- After struggling from the floor in a loss to Randolph, Hollins would only shoot 17% in an opening quarter that would see Shenandoah use a 20-3 run to seize control. Cabria Mutz scored to make it 6-6 with 6:40 left to play in the quarter. The Hornets scored 20 of the next 23, a three-pointer by Grayson Alfano, to close the period.
- Alfano and Zaria Holden hit back-to-back 3-pointers to trim the deficit to 13, but that would be as HU would get the rest of the way. Sarah Morales hit one of two from the free throw line to make it 18-18 during the second 20 minutes of play.
- A three-point play by Erin Allen ended a Hornet 12-0 run and sparked a Hollins 11-5 run to finish the frame.
- Mutz, Morales, and Allen started the fourth quarter with a 6-1 surge to cut the deficit but the Green and Gold could not sustain the rally, falling to their ODAC rivals by the score of 80-56.
- Morales led Hollins with 17 points, five rebounds, and a pair of steals while Mutz finished with 14 points, eight rebounds, to blocks and two steals. Alfano and Holden combined to hit all five of Hollins shots from long range with Allen adding six points and five boards.
