The Basics
Score:
 Hollins 74, Hood 29
Records: Hollins 8-2 / 1-1 ODAC | Blazers 3-7 / 0-0 MAC

The Lead: After taking a break for the holidays, the Hollins basketball team was back in action when they welcomed Hood College to campus for the first of back-to-back non-conference games to put a bow on 2025. Hollins wasted little time picking up where they left off with their win prior to the break, opening a double-digit, first quarter lead. The advantage would grow to 40-9 at the half. Hollins shot over 40% from the field while limiting the Blazers to just 24.5% shooting and forcing 27 turnovers on their way to an easy win, 74-29.

Highlights
  • Hollins opened the game on a 7-0 run started by a three-pointer from Noelani Carter. A 5-2 Hood run made it 12-7 before the Hollins defense took over. A Missy Hazard three and layup by Gracie Huffard grew the lead to 19-7 after one period of play.
  • The Hollins defense allowed just two points in the second frame, holding their guests to two points over the final 15 minutes of the first half. A Huffard put back put HU in front by 20 and right before the horn, Kennedy Leggett scored to push the lead over 30.
  • Hollins cruised in the second half, leading by as many as 45 on their way to the 74-29, non-conference, win.
  • The Green and Gold scored 21 points off the 27 turnovers they caused and held a 51-34 edge on the glass.
  • Jacorra Russell led all scorers with 20 points on 9-12 shooting. Huffard added 13 points, nine rebounds, and five steals. Zaria Holden had 10 points and six assists while Hazard hit four from long range on her way to 12 points. All 10 Hollins players scored in the win.
Up Next: Hollins plays host to Mary Baldwin tomorrow as the two non-conference foes will close out 2025 with a 1:00pm tip-off.
