Hollins Pulls Away for Seventh Win

Hollins vs Va. Univ. of Lynchburg | Wednesday, December 10, 2025 | Roanoke, Va.

The Basics
Score:
Hollins 80, Va. University of Lynchburg 58
Records: Hollins 7-2 / 1-1 ODAC | Dragons 0-7

The Lead: Hollins played host to Virginia University of Lynchburg on the Wednesday before exams and taking some time to enjoy the winter break. The Green and Gold came into the matchup off the heels of a conference loss to Randolph-Macon over the weekend and looked to get back in the win column against the Dragons. Hollins led by as many as six but the lead was just two after the first quarter of play. The score remained close before the home team closed the half on a 7-3 surge to take control, 36-29. The momentum stayed on the side of the home team as HU scored 10 straight to push the led at 17. The Dragons got as close as 10 before Hollins pulled away for the 80-58 win.

Highlights
  • The teams would go back and forth in a game that started with three ties and three lead changes. Jacorra Russell scored followed by a pair of Erin Allen free throws to put Hollins in front to stay. A one-point lead would go to four with a Missy Hazard three-pointer.
  • Leading 17-15 after the first quarter, Sarah Morales scored eight points in a Hollins 10-4 start to the second. VUL closed the gap before three free throws by Zaria Holden and a Noelani layup closed the half with HU in front 36-29.
  • Russell opened and Holden closed a 10-0 run to start the second half. Another three by Hazard gave Hollins their largest lead up to that point, 18 points. The Dragons scored the final four points, but Hollins took a 57-44 advantage into the final period of play.
  • VUL got to within 10 but the run was answered with a Gracie Huffard jump shot and the Green and Gold would start to pull away. Hazard connected from long range ahead of a Carter layup and when Kennedy Leggett scored on the fast break, Hollins had picked up the 80-58, non-conference, victory.
  • Holden led a trio in double figures with 18 while Russell added 17 and Morales finished with 13. Russell registered her first double-double with 12 rebounds while the first-year added two assists, one block, and a pair of steals. Carter had seven points and three steals with Huffard finishing with six points and nine rebounds.
Up Next: After the holiday break, Hollins will play host to Hood on Tuesday, December 30th. The tip-off with the Blazers is scheduled for 2:00pm.
