The Lead: After opening the season with a one-point win, Hollins looked to go 2-0 when they took on Agnes Scott. The home team would open the game on a 6-0 run and build an 11-point first quarter lead. Hollins rallied thanks to a 20-10 close to the first half and took a 24-23 edge into the locker room. Hollins would push the lead into double-digits to start the second half on their way to a 59-44 win and a 2-0 start to the season for the second consecutive year.
Highlights
- After watching the Scotties score the first six points of the afternoon, a Sarah Morales jumper stopped the run and got HU on the board. However, Agnes Scott would open a 13-point advantage. Layups by Abby Kingery and Jacorra Russell allowed Hollins to cut the deficit to six after one period of play.
- With 7:00 left in the first half and ASC up by nine, Hollins began to rally. A pair of Zaria Holden free throws started a run for the visitors that would culminate with a Morales jump shot and a one-point lead at the half.
- Midway through the third quarter, back-to-back baskets by Noelani Carter gave Hollins a five-point cushion at the media timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Carter added a fifth point to her personal run. Kennedy Leggett gave HU her first double-digit lead with a three-pointer, 35-23.
- Leading by 13 heading into the fourth quarter, a Kingery jumper and Russell layup would give Hollins her largest lead of the game, 51-33. A Scottie rally cut the lead to 11 at the final media timeout. Hazard stopped the ASC comeback thoughts with her third 3-pointer of the game and Hollins would go on to the 59-44 victory.
- Russell finished her second collegiate game with 11 points and five rebounds. Morales added nine points, 10 rebounds, three assists and four steals. Hazard had nine points and a game high four helpers.
- Gracie Huffard and Carter each scored five points with double-digit rebounds. Carter had 10 boards with Huffard grabbing 12 rebounds and blocking five shots.
Up Next: Hollins makes the short trip to Salem next weekend to compete at the 2025 Jean Beamer Tip-Off Classic, hosted by Roanoke College. The Green and Gold start the two-day event with a matchup against Centre on Saturday night at 8:00pm.
