The Lead: The Hollins basketball team traveled to Roanoke College to compete at the 2025 Jean Beamer Tip-Off Classic. Centre would face an undefeated Hollins team looking to continue her hot start to the season. Centre entered the matchup off a near 50-point win over Meredith and took an early 17-10 first quarter lead. Hollins used a 4-0 run to get back into the game, but HU would go cold from the field and trailed at the break, 34-16. Hollins would cut the deficit to 12 in the third quarter but could get no closer as HU fell for the first time this season, 67-44.

Highlights 
  • Sarah Morales and Jacorra Russell scored back-to-back buckets to open the game. After Centre battled back, Gracie Huffard scored to give HU an 8-6 edge only to see the Colonels close the quarter on an 11-2 surge.
  • Russell scored to open the frame and Zaria Holden got Hollins back to within three points at 17-14. Centre regained the momentum with another big run, 17-2, to take a big lead into the half.
  • Halfway through the third, Abby Kingery scored a layup to cut the deficit to 12 and after a Russell free throw, Hollins would be as close as they could get. The Colonels responded a third time and pushed their lead to 21, heading into the fourth quarter.
  • In the final 10 -minutes of play, Hollins finally began to be able to find the bottom of the basket, shooting over 42%. Despite the improved shooting, Hollins was unable to rally and fell for the first time this season, 67-44.
  • Holden scored 15 points with three rebounds and three assists. Russell finished in double-digits with 10 points and five boards. Morales added eight points and eight rebounds while Ariana Gutierrez score seven and Huffard grabbed a team high nine rebounds.
Up Next: Hollins will not have much rest as they wrap up the weekend with a 1:00pm start against Eastern tomorrow at the Cregger Center.
