The Lead: After a trio of home matches, the Hollins volleyball team was back on the road with a trip to Danville to face Averett on Tuesday night. Hollins would see the Cougars use a 10-3 run to pull away in the opening set. The Green and Gold would find themselves tied at 23-23 in the second frame, but back-to-back Cougar points would give the home team a 2-0 lead. Averett used the momentum to pull away during the third stanza to pick up the 3-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win.

Highlights
  • Hollins fell to the Cougars 19-25, 23-25, 16-25.
  • Trailing 1-0, Hollins used a Gabby Hedrick service ace and Sophia Maurer kill to tie the second set at 23-23. An Averett winner forced a timeout. Out of the break, Hollins could not tie the set and fell 25-23.
  • Averett carried the momentum of the second set and thanks in part to a 40-23 kill edge, went on to the three-set sweep, picking up their first ODAC win of the season.
  • Maurer paced Hollins with seven kills, two solo blocks, a service ace, and six digs. Alyssa Reed added five kills, three aces, and a match high 16 digs. Aliyah Lightsey had four kills and a block with Norah Madrey finishing with three kills and a pair of assisted blocks.
  • Rachel Hull handed out six helpers, Breanna Anduiza and Anisia Dean each added four assists. Konner Myers recorded 14 digs with two assists.
Up Next: Hollins steps out of conference to complete a home and home series with Mary Baldwin next Wednesday. HU looks to sweep the series with the Squirrels at 6:00pm.
