The Lead: For the second time this season, the Hollins volleyball team challenged Mary Baldwin. The Green and Gold won, 3-0, in Roanoke back on September 3rd and traveled to Staunton on Wednesday looking to the season sweep of the Squirrels. HU led 23-22 in the opening set and used back-to-back kills to claim a 1-0 lead. The Green and Gold carried that momentum and used a 7-0 run to take the second frame. In the third, the score was tied at 10-10 before Hollins used a 13-3 surge to pull away and pick up a 3-0 road win over Mary Baldwin.

Highlights 
  • Hollins bested the Squirrels 25-22, 25-16, 25-15.
  • Leading by one, kills by Alyssa Reed and Aliyah Lightsey sealed the first set victory.
  • Two Norah Madrey kills, and a Sophia Maurer service ace highlighted a 7-0 run to help Hollins to a 2-0 advantage.
  • In the third, HU trailed 9-10 before a Cassidy Henderson kill not only tied the score but helped Hollins on a 6-0 run that gave the visitors firm control as Hollins completed the 3-0 sweep of the Squirrels.
  • Hollins enjoyed a 38-22 edge at the net led by nine kills from Henderson. Maurer, Madrey, and Ivy Collins each recorded seven kills with Reed adding six. Rachel Hull handed out 18 of HU's 35 assists and served four aces.
  • Defensively, Konner Myers and Reed each had 12 digs while Maurer recorded 11 and Madrey finished with nine.
Up Next: Hollins takes a few days off for Fall Break, before returning to Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play with a trip to Washington and Lee on October 21st.
