The Lead: The final two weeks of the soccer regular season got started with a visit from Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets took the field currently ranked 2nd in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference standings. The visitors from Ashland scored a pair of markers in a :25 span to take control of the match around the 15-minute mark. 12, first half saves, kept HU in the match as they trailed 4-0 at the half. The Green and Gold began to wilt under the afternoon sun and the relentless Jacket attack as RMC picked up the ODAC win, 10-0.

Highlights
  • The match was scoreless until two RMC goals in a 25 second span gave the visitors control of the matchup. The Yellow Jackets scored on a penalty shot after the ensuing kickoff, took the ball down the field quickly to add to their lead.
  • In goal T Shover made several one-on-one stops on her way to 12, first half saves.
  • Trailing 3-0, Kendra Staten rotated back to keep Macon from adding to the lead by making a stop that had gotten past the HU keeper.
  •  Moments later, Izzy Workman got the first good scoring chance of the afternoon, but the shot was turned aside by the Randolph-Macon keeper. Seconds later, RMC raced down to field and would make the score 4-0 at the break.
  • Anna Starman came up from her defensive spot to launch a shot from straight on, requiring the Jacket's keeper to make the stop. With less than 15 minutes remaining, Valtinique Simmons got to the right end line and sent a tough angle shot that had to be saved.
  • Shover finished with a season high of 17 saves. That equaled the senior's career high (October 2, 2024 vs. Guilford). Grace Glerum relieved her teammate for the final 15 minutes of action.
Up Next: Hollins will play host to her cross-town rivals from Roanoke College on Wednesday, October 22nd at 3:30pm.
