The Basics
Score:
 Hollins 43, Bridgewater 61
Records: Hollins 8-3 / 2-2 ODAC | Eagles 11-1 / 4-0 ODAC

The Lead: For the first time in 2025 the Hollins basketball team took the court against Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) competition when they made the trip to conference leading Bridgewater. The Green and Gold took the opening period by a point, 14-13. However, the Eagles would control the next 20 minutes (32-14) to keep their perfect conference mark to start the season with a 61-43 victory.

Highlights
  • Sarah Morales started the scoring with a three-pointer and after back-to-back hoops by Cabria Mutz, Hollins was up 6-2. Bridgewater would tie the score at 8-8 and ultimately build a 13-11 lead before a three-pointer by Arianna Gutierrez in the closing seconds gave HU the lead.
  • Neither team scored in the first three minutes of the second frame until BC made a pair of free throws to re-take the advantage. The free throws sparked a 15-2 run for the Eagles and despite a 3-pointer by Grayson Alfano, the home team was up 30-19 at the half.
  • Hollins started the second half with four quick points and after another long-range connection, this time by Missy Hazard, the deficit was down to just six. Unfortunately, Bridgewater would grow their lead to as many as 18 during the third quarter.
  • Another three by Gutierrez and free throws by Mutz cut the lead back to single digits. A Hazard three-pointer and two more Mutz free throws got HU to within eight, but Bridgewater closed out the win 10-0 run to take the ODAC matchup.
  • Mutz led HU with 11 points, seven rebounds, two steals, and a pair of blocked shots. Hazard added eight points and four rebounds with Morales finishing with six points, five boards, and a pair of assists. Gutierrez hit on 2-4 from long range for six points.
Up Next: The schedule gets no easier as Hollins welcomes defending ODAC Champion Washington and Lee to Roanoke on Wednesday night for a 7pm opening tip-off.
